Sell Your Music On iTunes
Mar 17th, 2007
If you an independent music artists and always wondered how you get your music on to the iTunes Store, but without a company taking commission off each sale, TuneCore is the answer.
TuneCore is a music delivery and distribution service that gets any musicians or bands original music (even cover versions) on to the most popular online stores. Not only iTunes but eMusic, Rhapsody, Sony Connect, MusicNet and Napster without asking for your rights or taking any money from the sale or use of your music.
Unlike other online music distribution service, artists keep all of the money from the sales, TuneCore does not take any commission. Instead, the company charges one-time fees of 99 cents per song and 99 cents per store for each album and an annual $9.98 charge per album. So if an artist has a five-song album and he wants to put it on iTunes U.S., iTunes Canada, iTunes Japan, and Rhapsody, the total cost would be $18.89.
Keep in mind each online store itself does take a percentage off each sale, which TuneCore does cover in their FAQ.TuneCore has also setup a system where artists can track which songs are selling on which stores and can withdrawal any money they made at anytime through PayPal. Artists like Ziggy Marley, Kelly Shoes, and Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin all have music online through TuneCore.
Some food for thought, Apple does provide it own sign up form for those interested in getting their music up on iTunes alone. But with TuneCore one can get their music on all popular online music stores.
